Facilities panel refers SRO deal, $2.9 million green energy plan
School Committee · Meeting of August 10, 2026
Fall River school facilities panel refers revised police-contract and $2.9 million green energy deal to full committee. The Facilities Subcommittee voted unanimously to send a reworked school resource officer memorandum of understanding to the full School Committee's August 19 meeting, after the police chief said roughly $97,500 to $100,000 in unauthorized overtime was paid last year under vague shift language; the standard SRO day now moves to 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Members also referred a $2.9 million Massachusetts Clean Energy Center grant, presented by Ameresco's Dan Smith, to overhaul Green School's failing building controls and add a new chiller at no cost to taxpayers.
"We're literally a solutions partner," Smith told the panel. In a 2-1 roll call, the subcommittee created a new executive confidential assistant position for the CFO and deputy superintendent with a $60,000-to-$73,500 salary range, and separately approved a $70,000-to-$80,000 range for a new nutrition supervisor. Member Dias cast the lone "no" votes, citing an unreviewed districtwide administrative staffing chart.
