Board of Health · Meeting of October 19, 2026
FALL RIVER — The Fall River Board of Health ordered suspensions for two retailers caught selling tobacco to minors. The board voted 3-0 to suspend International Smoke Shop for three days after owner Naz Khalil said the sale "was just a mistake, you know, done by the employee," and separately voted 3-0 to suspend Stop and Save for seven days after a clerk sold cigars to a 19-year-old who admitted her age. Both stores faced mandatory $2,000 fines under the state's Act to Modernize Tobacco Control; Stop and Save had already paid, while Khalil asked the board for "a couple weeks, maybe, or four weeks" to pay.
The board also approved tattoo apprenticeship applications for Kendra Salmonson and Cameron O'Shaughnessy, and scheduled its next meeting for December 14.
